5 'Bio' Programming Language You May Use
|
In the era of genomics, efficient handling of data is very necessary and that is why bioinformatics resources have been playing important role to deal with high-throughput genomic data. Here we are giving the list of 5 'Bio' Programming Language that are widely use these days
Biopython is a set of freely available tools for bioinformaticians written in Python by different team of developers. Python libraries and applications are freely distributed which address the needs of biological computations. The source code is made available under the Biopython License.
BioPerl, a community effort to produce Perl code which is useful in biological works. BioPerl is a active open source software project which contains Perl modules that facilitate the development of Perl scripts for bioinformatics applications. BioPerl provides free software modules for almost all the typical tasks of bioinformatics programming like accessing data from local and remote databases, transforming formats of database, BLAST, multiple sequence alignments, genes searching, developing machine readable sequence annotations etc.
The BioJava Project is an another open source project dedicated to providing Java based applications for processing biological data. BioJava has been widely utilising for all typical tasks of bioinformatics programming like sequence manipulation, protein structures manipulation, file parsering, dynamic programming, and simple statistical routines. Because of its flexibility, the BioJava library is useful for automating many daily and mundane bioinformatics tasks.
BioRuby is a package of open source/free Ruby code, with classes for sequence analysis, alignment, database parsing, and other bioinformatics tools.Tools for structural biology have been also available in BioRuby library . BioRuby is released under the GNU GPL version 2 or the Ruby license. BioRuby project provides an integrated environment in bioinformatics for the Ruby language. BioRuby project is supported by University of Tokyo (Human Genome Center), Kyoto University(Bioinformatics Center) and the Open Bio Foundation.
BioPHP is a package of free PHP code, with classes for sequence analysis, alignment, database parsing, and other bioinformatics tools. They described their aim as " to extend the PHP scripting language so it can be used for biology". More details and codes are availvle on different website like
